Reading Comprehension Questions

We had a wonderful Conference week! I really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk with each family.

One area that we talked about was reading and how important it was to read with your child every day.  Below is a few questions that you can discuss with your child after your reading

Fiction  questions to ask your child after they read:
-Who was the main/most important character in the story?
-What was the main character trying to do?
-What was the problem and solution?
-What was the setting (where did the story take place)?
-What was your favorite part and why?
-What character traits did the characters have (kind, mean, creative, patient, messy)? How do you know?
-Retell the most important events in your own words.
-What was the author's purpose for writing the book?
(Entertain-Fiction, Inform-Nonfiction or Persuade-Opinion)

Non-fiction questions to ask your child:
Ask before reading: What do you already know about the topic?
What facts were in the book?
What new facts did you learn?
What questions do you have after reading?
What is your favorite fact and why? to ask your child:
