Reading: We just finished learning about the central message (what is the author trying to teach us) of a story. We are moving on to comparing and contrasting characters and adventures in a story.
Math: We will continue working on adding and subtracting double digit numbers. In first grade we will be practicing adding and subtraction with and without regrouping. Towards the end of the month we will be working on understanding dimes and pennies.

What We Are Learning in February

In the month of February we will be very busy learning.

We will be learning about adding and subtracting double and single digit numbers. We will be doing this by using base ten blocks and pennies and dimes. A way you can help at home is by working with your student adding cents. (pennies and dimes) This will help strengthen their math and money skills.

In reading we will be learning central message (what a story is trying to teach us), as well as comparing and contrasting books and characters. How you can help at home is during your daily reading just talking with your student about each character and what they liked or did not like about the story.

In Science and Social Studies we will be learning about light, shadows, good and services, as well as Lewis and Clark. As for writing we will continue learning about opinion writing.

February Break is the week of the 19th. Please keep up all the hard work you do at home.

Panther Parents,
Our school’s mission is “Every Student. Every Day.” That statement applies to every aspect of our school, especially ensuring that our students are safe. At this time, there is a concern for student safety in the parking lot that faces our front door, located on Utica Dr. That parking lot is our bus parking lot only, and is not to be used for student drop off in the morning or pick up at dismissal.  We do allow some of our students with disabilities to use this parking lot in the morning which is indicated with a colored card from Sedalia Park Administration.
On any given morning, we have nearly twenty buses and day-care vans driving through this lot and dropping off students at the front door. Due to the high volume of bus and day care traffic, it is unsafe for students to walk through this parking lot. Despite our best efforts, students are consistently let out of cars and sent to the front door unattended. Due to this increasing safety concern, it is necessary to make some changes to our school procedures.
·       The front parking lot will no longer be used for student drop off or parent parking until 8:00 am.
·       Sedalia Park staff will no longer be at the corner of Utica and Old Sewell to escort students to the front door.
·       Parking on Old Sewell is prohibited. Students who walk to school must be escorted to the front door by a parent or guardian.
·       The car line is the only way to bring students to school or pick them up in your vehicle.
Thank you for understanding the importance of keeping our students safe and supporting this decision. I would like to ask that you please strongly consider putting your students on the bus in the morning which will ensure safety, punctuality, and attendance.  If you have any questions, concerns, or need information about bus transportation, please contact the front office.
