On Wednesday, September 6th, Thursday, September 7th, and Friday, September 8th, your scholars will be taking the the CoGat test. Please have them here no later than 8:00.

In math we have been working on counting to 120 and last week we started doing work problems. For word problems we have been focused on adding mostly, but in the next few weeks we will be introducing some subtraction work problems. If possible please review addition and subtraction flash cards at home with your child. The more practice they recieve the more successful they will be with the skill. Last week I introduced making a group of 10, this week we are working on how to make teen number using groups of tens and how many ones.

The last two weeks we have focused on characters and setting in Reading. We will continue practicing this skill as well as recalling facts from the book. Thank you for all of you that are reading with your child every night, I enjoy seeing this on the homework. For writing we will continue working on small moment, or narratives (telling a story). It has been a enjoy hearing from your students all of the wonderful adventures you had this summer. I am pleased with the progress we have already started making.

We start Social Studies this week, we will be talkiing about where we live. Specifically, what city, state, country, continent, and plant we live on. This is also a good time for you to work with your child on his or her home address.

8/9 What are we doing in 1st Grade?

What are we doing in 1st grade?
Reading: The next few weeks we will be focused on characters and setting. As you read with your child every night please talk with them about these important parts.

Math: We have been working on counting to 120. Next week we will continue working on counting, but we will be learning about how to represent tens and ones.

Science: We have been learning about the weather . A good way to continue helping your child learn about the weather is by talking about what the weather is suppose to be and helping them pick out cloths that match the weather.  Next week we will be continuing learning about weather but we will be focused on the water cycle.

Sight Words: I have them copied and they will be ready to come home on Friday. Please go ahead and start working with your child on these words. Once your child has complete the list, please send me a note in their agenda and I will be happy to test them.
