Parents,
On Friday, March 24th we will be going to the High Musuem for our first field trip of the year. I am currently missing 2 permissions slips. If you have not turned in your child's please be sure to do that by Wednesday.

On the day of the field trip we will be having lunch at the High. So if you child normally brings his or her lunch please put it in a plastic or paper bag that can be thrown away after they eat their lunch. If you child normally gets lunch at school they will receive a bag lunch before we leave.

Questions to ask during Reading!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break! While I hope that you get lots of rest, I also hope that you read as many books as you can.

How you can help your child during the break is by reading? Not only is reading important, but it is also important that you ask questions about their reading.

Questions to ask Before Reading:
- What do you think this story/article is about?
- What do you think will happen in this book?
- Do you think there will be a problem in the story? What will it be?
- What type of story do you think this is?
- Why did you choose this book?
- Do you think this story will be like anything that has happened to you?

During Reading:
- What do you predict will happen next?
- How do you think the story will end?
- What is happening in the story so far? (use words like first, next, then, and finally)
- If you were the main character would you do the same thing or something different?
- What are you think about as you read the story/article?
- Do you have any questions about what you are reading? Anything you don't understand?

After Reading:
- Was the title of the story appropriate? Why or why not?
- Would you change the title? Why or why not?
- Were your predictions correct?
- If there was a problem, did it get solved? How did the characters solve it?
- Why do you think the author wrote this book?
- What is the central message?
- Who is telling the story?
- What is the most important point the author is trying to make?
- What was your favorite part? Why?
- Please retell the story using sequence words, you may use your book to go back and help you remember.

Learning Commons

We had a great time going to the Learning Commons. We are learning how to work together.

We learned how to use Osmo and Dot the Robot. They used osmo to build using pattern blocks and they wrote code that brought Dot the Robot to life.

We are looking forward to getting to return soon!

Week of January 22 - 28

Week of January 22- 28

This week we are comparing and contrasting characters and books. We will be working with The Thre Little Pigs, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Click Clask Moo, Cows That Type, Duck on a Bike, and Piggie and Elephant: My Friend is Sad.

For writing we are working Opinion writing this 9 weeks. A way that you can help at home is by having your child share their opinion about the books they read with you and even discussing their favorite character.

In math we are starting to work on adding and subtracting with two digit numbers. This week we are working with adding and subtracting a single digit and a double digit number together with out regrouping.

Thank you for all the hard work you put in at home.

Where do we live?

We have been working on learning he 7 continents. One way that we do this is by singing the Continent Song by Dr. Jean. (You can find the song on YouTube.)

While we are working on meeting this standard at school. Please be working with your child on what city, state, and country they live in.

Have a wonderful weekend!
