We are going to the Aquarium!

We are going to the Aquarium!

THIS Friday is the field trip to the Georgia Aquarium. This field trip is the perfect starting point to learning about and researching animals in first grade. Talk with your student this week about somethings they might see at the aquarium and somethings they would like to see! On Friday, please make sure that your student has a bigger breakfast than normal. We will not be eating lunch until after we return from the field trip at the end of the day. I will be bringing the students some crackers to tide them over during the field trip. This is a super fun field trip and I can't wait to see the excitement of going to the Aquarium.

High Museum

Parents,
On Friday, March 24th we will be going to the High Musuem for our first field trip of the year. I am currently missing 2 permissions slips. If you have not turned in your child's please be sure to do that by Wednesday.

On the day of the field trip we will be having lunch at the High. So if you child normally brings his or her lunch please put it in a plastic or paper bag that can be thrown away after they eat their lunch. If you child normally gets lunch at school they will receive a bag lunch before we leave.

We are looking forward to this wonderful field trip.

Questions to ask during Reading!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break! While I hope that you get lots of rest, I also hope that you read as many books as you can.

How you can help your child during the break is by reading? Not only is reading important, but it is also important that you ask questions about their reading.

Questions to ask Before Reading:
- What do you think this story/article is about?
- What do you think will happen in this book?
- Do you think there will be a problem in the story? What will it be?
- What type of story do you think this is?
- Why did you choose this book?
- Do you think this story will be like anything that has happened to you?

During Reading:
- What do you predict will happen next?
- How do you think the story will end?
- What is happening in the story so far? (use words like first, next, then, and finally)
- If you were the main character would you do the same thing or something different?
- What are you think about as you read the story/article?
- Do you have any questions about what you are reading? Anything you don't understand?

After Reading:
- Was the title of the story appropriate? Why or why not?
- Would you change the title? Why or why not?
- Were your predictions correct?
- If there was a problem, did it get solved? How did the characters solve it?
- Why do you think the author wrote this book?
- What is the central message?
- Who is telling the story?
- What is the most important point the author is trying to make?
- What was your favorite part? Why?
- Please retell the story using sequence words, you may use your book to go back and help you remember.
