Aquarium Trip
Good afternoon,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. At the beginning of the year we discussed all the possible field trips that we would be taking this year, specially the Aquarium. In the next few days I will be sending home field trip forms for this amazing trip. Please send it back before Spring Break, April 1 - April 6th.
Have a fantastic week,

What we are learning in March?
Social Studies: We are starting to learn about Lewis and Clark. We are discussing the Louisiana Purchase and Sacagawea.
Writing: We are continuing our Opinion Writing, focusing on how to create convincing and true reasons and examples to support our opinion. We are also learning about how to create a interesting introduction and conclusion.
Reading: We just finished learning about the central message (what is the author trying to teach us) of a story. We are moving on to comparing and contrasting characters and adventures in a story.
Math: We will continue working on adding and subtracting double digit numbers. In first grade we will be practicing adding and subtraction with and without regrouping. Towards the end of the month we will be working on understanding dimes and pennies.

What We Are Learning in February
In the month of February we will be very busy learning.
We will be learning about adding and subtracting double and single digit numbers. We will be doing this by using base ten blocks and pennies and dimes. A way you can help at home is by working with your student adding cents. (pennies and dimes) This will help strengthen their math and money skills.
In reading we will be learning central message (what a story is trying to teach us), as well as comparing and contrasting books and characters. How you can help at home is during your daily reading just talking with your student about each character and what they liked or did not like about the story.
In Science and Social Studies we will be learning about light, shadows, good and services, as well as Lewis and Clark. As for writing we will continue learning about opinion writing.
February Break is the week of the 19th. Please keep up all the hard work you do at home.
Mrs. Mitcham
